OUTREACH
Stories from Uganda
A picture of the team and the boys after football ministry.
Our team had just arrived in Uganda, we were on our first week of ministry in Arua, doing house visits when we saw a group of boys building bricks in the brick field. So we invited them over to hear their stories and get to know them. Our team shared about Jesus and prayed for them. Before our outreach began we had felt that discipleship and multiplication were going to be the theme for our work there, and we were expectant to see how we would see this come true.
Soon there was an opportunity to start a weekly football ministry in the YWAM base there in Arua. These boys were so excited, around 20 showed up, we played football and then sat down to hear stories and testimonies of who God is. At the end of our first night, we all felt very strongly to disciple and walk with some of these boys so that they could be strong rocks for their community. We also had a heart to start a Bible study.
One of these boys was Frank, he was one we all felt to disciple and so we shared about the possibility of doing a Bible study with him. He got even more excited about being able to study the bible than about playing football! He quickly started to ask how many people he could invite. So we started with this new ministry and soon we had a group of 30 people studying the Bible.

As we continued with the Bible group we saw that multiplication was going to play a big part. We wanted to train some of the boys to be able to lead the Bible study themselves and so we prayed and we invited some of the boys to be trained in how to make an Inductive Bible Study. This entailed teaching them how to pick a text, a topic and how to hear from the Lord, how to read the whole passage and ask the Lord to know what's He highlighting, also how to research the context and how to formulate the interpretation observation and application questions.
During our final month there they were able to lead this Bible study we were there to support and participate. It was incredible to see the transformation in their lives, and how they went from building bricks to building bible studies. Through this ministry we saw people getting to know God better, we saw people giving their lives to Jesus and we saw the fruit of multiplication we had been praying for even before this outreach.
As we left we took time to bless these boys and commission them to continue being a blessing in their community.
