In the global community we live in at YWAM Lausanne, we have many friends for whom experiencing distinct seasons is something entirely new. Here in Switzerland, we enjoy the beauty of four clearly defined seasons, each offering its own unique gifts. Spring is no exception. If you’ve ever been part of YWAM Lausanne, you may remember the simple joy of walking through the forest on a spring morning—the birds singing, the vibrant colors returning, the crisp air awakening your senses, and, if you’re fortunate, glimpses of foxes or deer.

Spring carries a deeper meaning for us as well. It echoes the heart of our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. As the days grow longer and new life begins to emerge all around us, we are reminded of the new life we have in Him. This is not just a future promise tied to eternity, it is a present reality meant to shape every area of our lives. Because Jesus has conquered the grave, we are invited into a profound truth: no situation, no challenge, no defeat lies beyond God’s redemptive power. If He has overcome sin and death, what could possibly remain outside His reach?

J.R.R. Tolkien once coined the word “eucatastrophe” to describe the sudden turning point in a story when everything seems lost, yet something unexpectedly good breaks through. As a man of faith, he saw this pattern reflected in the gospel itself, writing, “The Birth of Christ is the eucatastrophe of Man’s history. The Resurrection is the eucatastrophe of the story of the Incarnation.” In other words, the resurrection is the ultimate moment where despair is overturned by hope.

Spring reminds us that God is a redeeming God. It often seems that He does His most powerful work when circumstances appear at their worst. This is the foundation of our “living hope” as Peter writes, a confidence that God is always at work, bringing redemption into our stories.

One common sight in our forests during spring is trees that have fallen in winter storms. Though cracked or even severed from the trunk, their branches often begin to bud again. New growth emerges from what looked lifeless, carrying the potential for future life. In the same way, Christ is the firstfruits of our resurrection. His life is now our life, and His resurrection power is at work in us, bringing restoration and hope even in places marked by brokenness.

During our recent Kingdom Come event, we witnessed this reality firsthand. One gentleman, who had turned back to God after reaching a place of deep personal brokenness, received prayer, a Bible, and joined our staff for church. In that moment, we saw the beginning of something new, a life being replanted, one that will in turn bring hope to others. God’s redemptive work is already unfolding in his story.

And the same is true for you.

Your redeemed life points to the reality of the resurrection. Just as the buds of spring quietly declare what God can do, your life becomes a testimony that invites others to wonder: “If God can do it for them, could He do it for me?”

Our mission, then, is simple yet profound: to plant seeds of hope in a world still marked by the sorrow of Good Friday, by living fully in the reality of Resurrection Sunday.

The Power of the Bible

During Kingdom Come, we had dinner one evening where we met five guys from Spain. What made the moment so special is that two of them had already met Juan and Raquel two weeks earlier, when they had prayed for them. Since then, they hadn’t even returned to that part of the city—yet somehow, we all ended up in the exact same place again. When they saw us, they got really excited and told their friends, “These are the ones who prayed for us!”

As we shared the meal, the conversation naturally went deeper. They opened up about how, in Spain, the church is often seen as something political and full of rules, which doesn’t really attract them. From there, we were able to share a different perspective—what it looks like to have a real, personal relationship with God, and the beauty of truly knowing Him.

They had many questions about what we do and why we do it. We shared about our heart for missions and how we long for people to find hope in Jesus. We explained that what God has done in our lives is so good that we can’t keep it to ourselves—we have to share it. At one point, one of the guys asked why we do this if other Christians don’t. I simply answered, “If not me, then who?” We all have a part to play in showing who God is and sharing His goodness.

That really impacted them. One of them even told us at the end that he could see that we truly live what we believe.

We also reconnected with one of the guys from the first encounter, who mentioned he knew a bit about the Bible. I felt led to give him a Bible in Spanish and encouraged him to start with the Gospel of John. He received it with joy.

We ended the night praying together, and it was clear that their hearts were being touched. It was beautiful to see how God is moving. I truly believe that every encounter is like adding water to a growing sea—something is building little by little. And this second meeting felt like God continuing that work in their hearts, awakening a real desire to know Him more.

we have many conversations like this, when we get the chance to share the word with Many. During the event we gave 30 bibles, in 9 different languages like Spanish, Ukranian and Farsi.

Thank You

In the coming quarter, we are excited to welcome over 100 students across our four UofN courses. So far this year, we have been able to give approximately 5,500 CHF in scholarships.

As we continue serving in discipleship—walking alongside students as they encounter God’s redemptive story and learn to embody and share it—we would love to invite you to partner with us. Your support helps make it possible for more students to be equipped and transformed through these opportunities.

If you would like to contribute to a YWAM Lausanne scholarship you can do so here.
